Kuuttaren korut
With her kantele and her voice Anna-Kaisa Liedes was one of the top performers of Finnish folk music already at the end of the 1970's, when she was still a school girl. She pursued studies at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, and following graduation joined the teaching staff of the department. She is mostly known as a member of the group Niekku, but also as a contributor for Tallari. Anna-Kaisa Liedes has also played in many other larger or smaller productions of folk music.
Her long (and sometimes winding) road as a folk musician has passed through a definitive change in the status and possibilities of folk music in Finland. She has experienced the birth of a new self-esteem, the ever deepening sense of tradition and the freedom of expression. Folk music is no longer contained by the straight-jacket of tradition. Influences from other sources are no longer abhorred or hidden. The folk musician is also at liberty to experiment and seek, to express his own feelings. Today's intrepretations already carry tomorrow within, but where the road will take us, no-one knows.
