I began to play the kantele when I was ten years old. Gradually, I became attached to the unique sound of the instrument, the different colours of tone, the sometimes bright and thin and other times dark and deep sound. Kantele is a silent instrument. Yet, I find it also powerful, and at times even dramatic.

This is my first solo album and contains my own compositions for the Finnish concert kantele. I fell in love with Kari Saviniemi's poems, and chose four of them for the series Näkyhiekka (tracks 3-6). The poems served as a theme and a source of inspiration.

Elämänvaunu (tracks 8-10) was composed for a documentary film entitled Pienen pieni elämänvaunu, written and directed by Ritva Laijoki-Puska. The music takes us to Pakistan and Finland. Composing is a very personal thing for me. The music is something I have experienced, feelings I have felt, joys and sorrows, journeys of exploration. - That is why it is a part of me.
