The impetus to this project was a desire to create a story; to create a narrative that would engage the imagination and the senses, while still having a shape that could concievably be realized by a single person. The seeking of that shape, and the methods that make it, were guided by a few base questions:
1. In what ways could music be combined with a written story outside theatre and film? (A very wide question, but necessary as a starting point)
2. Could it be combined in such a way that the music isn’t relegated to a “background” role?
In what ways could an element of communication/improvisation be retained in the presentation?
3. I will attempt to answer these questions during the course of this essay, and extrapolate on the thoughts, philosophies and situations that influenced my choices during my work.
